Second day July Road trip : We left Albuquerque about 8:30 and headed west on I-40. After lunch, John decided we should go to the Petrified Forest National Monument. It was much larger than he expected and we spent most of the day wandering around seeing the huge petrified tree trunks. Unfortunately, before the Park Service was able to enforce the law against stealing the precious fossil trees, tons were stolen from the park or destroyed by vandals searching for jewelry quality stones in the trunks. A rain storm stalked us all day with strong winds but it was cool because of it.

July 12,2009 : We left Williams, Arizona, early Sunday morning on the way to LA. We stopped at the Hoover Dam where they are building a huge bridge to keep traffic off the dam. The construction is almost as spectacular as the dam. We met up with Ann, Ivan, Mary, Isabella and Johnny in Anaheim where the family took a swim. We made it an early night so we could be up early to go to Disneyland.

July 20, 2009 Florence OR : The Oregon shore has miles of sand dunes and we rode a dune buggy bus for a crazy, wild ride. Imagine a 30-minute roller coaster ride only with sand, cold wind, and trees! Later we went to the Sea Lion Cave and a site on the coast called the devil's churn. The waves hit the rocks and the foam files up 30 to 50 feet.
